When packing for the Daymaniyat Islands, remember you will spend several hours on a boat or in the water. Space on board is limited. Keep your bag light but prepare for the Arabian sun and the 16 to 18-kilometer journey from the coast.
How do you protect yourself from the sun?
Wear reef-safe sunscreen, a UV rash guard, and a hat with a secure strap.
The sun off the coast of Oman is intense. Normal sunscreen harms the coral ecosystem, so reef-safe options are required. A UV rash guard protects against sunburn and seasonal jellyfish.
Do you need to bring your own snorkel and mask?
Most tour operators provide snorkeling equipment, but you can bring your own.
Tours usually include masks, snorkels, and fins. If you prefer a perfect fit or have prescription goggles, pack your own gear. A waterproof camera or GoPro is highly recommended to photograph the turtles and fish.

What clothes should you pack for the boat?
Bring swimwear, a quick-dry towel, and a dry change of clothes.
You will need a towel since most boats do not supply them. During the winter months from November to April, pack a light windbreaker. The 40 to 50-minute boat ride back to Muscat can feel cold after swimming.
How do you handle seasickness on the way to the islands?
Take motion sickness medication before you leave the marina.
The Gulf of Oman has open water swells. If you are prone to seasickness, take medication early. Bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated in the heat. Operators supply water, but a personal bottle is easier to manage on deck.

Can you bring cameras and drones?
Waterproof cameras are great, but drones are prohibited without an official Ministry permit.
Pack a GoPro or a waterproof phone pouch to photograph the 250 species of reef fish. Leave drones and professional heavy camera equipment at your hotel unless you arranged special permission in advance.
Questions travellers ask
Do tours provide food and water?
Yes, boat tours departing from Muscat marinas provide bottled water, snacks, or sometimes meals depending on the package.
Can I bring my pet on the boat?
No. Pets and domestic animals are strictly banned from entering the Daymaniyat Islands Nature Reserve.
Do I need to pay for a permit on the boat?
The official entry permit fee of 3 OMR for foreign adults is typically included in your tour package price. Check with your operator.
